Helen Lapping has been involved in secondary English teaching for 20 years: as a full time teacher of KS3 to 5 English, English Language and English Literature, including eight years as a Head of English and five and half years as Blackpool Council's Secondary English consultant.
She is an accredited SSAT Lead Practitioner and an accredited Assessor for the Improvement and Excellence in English quality mark programme.
While Helen was in post as Secondary English consultant with Blackpool (January 2006 to July 2011) Blackpool's GCSE English results rose steadily from 38% A* to C to 66% A* to C, with the number of Blackpool pupils making three levels of progress from KS2 to 4 rising from 59% in 2008 to 71.4% in 2010. (The national average for the latter was 70.4% in 2010.)
